Twelve Kentucky school districts have been labeled "bright spots" in a new report released by The Center for Business and Economic Research (CBER) in the Gatton College of Business and Economics at the University of Kentucky.

Twelve Kentucky school districts were named 'Bright Spots' in a new report by The Center for Business and Economic Research (CBER) in the UK Gatton College of Business and Economics.

One of the districts included is Hazard Independent Schools.

Superintendent Sondra Combs says she is proud to call Eastern Kentucky home. "Growing up here a lot of times people think, oh Eastern Kentucky, you know, they can't do as well," she said. But Hazard Independent proved those stereotypes wrong with high achievement scores.

Kentucky officials said the state's unemployment rate rose slightly in August.

The Kentucky Center for Statistics said the state's seasonally adjusted jobless rate was 4.4 percent last month. The preliminary figure is up from the 4.3 percent rate in July. Last month's rate was unchanged from the statewide jobless rate in August 2018.

State officials said Kentucky's trade, transportation and utilities sector gained 1,500 jobs last month. The leisure and hospitality sector grew by 900 positions.

Figures released this week by the Kentucky Education and Workforce Cabinet showed an uptick in the state's unemployment rate in August.

According to the Kentucky Center for Statistics, August's jobless rate was 4.4%, up 0.1% from July, and the same as August 2018. Kentucky remains above the national average, which was 3.7%, unchanged from July 2019, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.

FRANKFORT, Ky. — Kentucky’s seasonally adjusted preliminary August 2019 unemployment rate was 4.4%, according to the Kentucky Center for Statistics (KYSTATS), an agency within the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet. The unemployment rate for August 2019 was up from the 4.3% reported for July 2019.

The preliminary August 2019 jobless rate was unchanged from the 4.4% recorded for the state in August 2018.

After an attack on a Saudi Arabian oil facility this weekend, the price of gas is a concern here in the U.S.

CNN reports, head of petroleum analysis at Gasbuddy, Patrick Dehaan, estimates the hike is a matter of cents. He said people could see prices go up from 10 to 25 cents a gallon in the next few weeks.

For a single adult, that wage is probably enough to earn a living. But Pollock splits custody of his 10-year-old son, which means it's barely enough to scrape by.
